Olympic Judo at MABJJ

Travis Stevens member of the 2008 Olympic judo team and the reigning Pan Am champion has been training and sharing his knowledge with us at MABJJ in Puyallup. He demonstrated and explained an ashi bari to osoto gari combination with great detail. He will be leaving soon to the east coast to get ready for competing in Europe at the beginning of next year. Good luck from all of us at MABJJ and WARBJJ.

Sometimes we forget

Sometimes we forget to thanks the people that help us. Like my friend Marvin that took the picture that appeared on my first post. He is the one standing next to Professor Joe Moreira in the picture. By the way I want to thanks my parents. Mom thanks for teaching me to be humble and Dad for blessing me with intellectual curiosity. Mr. Raul Papaleo and Mr. Tony Zayas for showing me what real coaches are about. David De Leon for taking me under his wing and guiding me in the sport of Olympic weightlifting. Mr. Fred Mastison from Aikido of Phoenix for giving me the Martial Arts bug. Mr. David Bird from Combat Arnis for instructing me in the importance of footwork and flow. Professor Marcelo Alonso for putting up with me for all these years and keep me grounded. Duc my brother and mentor for guiding me on a wild ride on the combative arts. And to all my training partners past and present because it is hard to spar the air.To Electramama for bringing my caveman typing skills into the blogsphere. To my wife Diana for all her patience and support.

Joe Moreira Seminar

First of all thanks to Marcelo Alonso and Joe Moreira for putting together an awesome seminar. Professor Moreira gave us a new understanding of the basics and fundamentals of the hip escape. He showed three variations and its applications, the crossover, the palm and elbow and the back roll. It is incredible that after 10 years practicing BJJ how much I learned about one of the first drills that we are all learned as white belts. Proving a point that always is good to go back to the basics.
